A Haitian Entrepreneur Joins the Prosperity Candle Family!

Our Haitian Candle Accessory Collection

How did these beautiful Haitian accessories suddenly enter the Prosperity Holiday Collection, you may wonder? Thanks to Prosperity Candle Co-Founder Ted Barber, who has worked in Haiti on and off over the years, we were able to connect with Hansie Duvivier, a Haitian designer. Building upon the Haitian metal art tradition, Hansie created distinctive, custom-made designer lamps in Port au Prince. After the quake shattered her business and scattered her trained employees, she faced enormous financial and logistical barriers. Determined to continue, she persevered.

Hansie believes that when God closes a door, He opens a window. Because everything except the metal art bases had to be imported, Hansie eliminated all electrical components and redesigned the bases as gorgeous luminaries. Perfect for Prosperity Pillar Candles!

These candle accessories are all designed by Hansie and crafted by hand out of recycled metal drums.

As Hansie says:

In the US, recycling is rapidly becoming a part of our eco-conscious. In Haiti, they have been recycling used metal drums into beautiful works of art for over 60 years without the benefit of electricity or running water.

Each drum is cleaned, split open and flattened. The Master Artisan carefully chalks the design onto the drum before beginning the slow, painstaking process of chiseling each piece. Once the form has been chiseled, the artisan then uses their hammer and a single nail to create the finely pointed details in the design.

The talented Haitian designer, Hansie Duvivier

Every step of this unique one-of-a-kind pieces is done by hand — and, like a snowflake, no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Thank you for supporting determined entrepreneurs in Iraq & Haiti this holiday season! Their high quality gifts pair together beautifully.
