This October, we are donating 10% of sales to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to help protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of everyone in the United States.
Why we are donating
At Prosperity Candle, our mission has always been about more than candles. When we founded this social enterprise in 2009, we wanted to create opportunities for women who have survived conflict and displacement, and support refugee families around the world.
Over the years, we’ve welcomed artisans resettled in our region after living for years in refugee camps where concern for human rights is outweighed by simple survival. We offer these strong, resilient women living wage employment, stability, a safe work environment, and the chance to thrive.
Along the way, we've supported many causes aligned with our values including Feeding America, voter registration and breast cancer research. But today, things are different. We are seeing hard-won civil liberties being tested daily. From extreme gerrymandering to lawless detentions and deportations, the rights and freedoms of all Americans are under assault.
As a B-Corp certified social enterprise – and a group of citizens with a conscience – we cannot stay silent when so much is at stake.
ACLU’s History of Defending Rights & Freedoms
The ACLU was founded in 1920 at a time when free speech, workers’ rights and racial justice were under attack. For more than a century, it has stood as a nonpartisan defender of the U.S. Constitution through tireless work in courts, legislatures and communities.
The ACLU advocates for freedom of speech, individual rights, immigrant rights, and equality under the law. It is active in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C., and is essential to preserving the foundations of American democracy.
Candles with Purpose
When you purchase a candle or gift from us this October, you are not only supporting women artisans in the U.S. and refugee families around the world, but also helping safeguard your own civil rights and liberties. We will donate 10% directly to the ACLU.
