When it comes to our homes, there are many ways to create the atmosphere you seek, from colors and lighting to furniture arrangement and accent pillows. And something as simple as scent can completely transform any room into a oasis of freshness, relaxation or comfort.
Of course, candles might be the first idea that comes to mind... and we do love them! But there are also other ways to add a little extra ambiance using scent. A reed diffuser is a great option for filling a room with lovely aromas without the need for a flame or plug-in.
What's particularly great about a reed diffuser is you can place it anywhere and leave it. In an office to freshen up the space, in your bedroom to help you relax for sleep, or on the kitchen windowsill to enjoy in the morning. Reed diffusers disperse our favorite scents, with the added benefits of flexibility in placement and peace of mind without a candle’s flame. And they are perfect for spaces where candles may not be allowed, such as dorm rooms.
In this post, we've put together a guide with answers to some common questions you might have, plus we share how you can best use a reed diffuser.
What is a reed diffuser?
A reed diffuser is a combination of a scented oil and natural reeds that disperse the scent into a room. The reeds draw oil up to to the tip where it evaporates. Most diffusers use an oil that contains VOCs to help fragrance evaporate more quickly, but at Prosperity Candle, our Happiness Reed Diffusers use a 100% natural, vegan base that is entirely VOC-free, alcohol-free, allergen-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free. This ensures a clean aroma that you don’t have to think twice about.
How do you use a reed diffuser?
First, uncap the bottle by carefully removing the cork and set it aside to recap at a later time. Place 4-8 reeds into the open bottle, then after 10 minutes flip the reeds so the saturated ends are in the air. Once you’re satisfied with the reed arrangement, set the diffuser discretely on a shelf or choose to display it as a focal point of your room.
How many sticks should you put in a diffuser?
This is completely up to you! If you’d like a stronger fragrance, add in more reeds and occasionally flip them so the saturated ends are in the air to allow for more of the oils to evaporate and disperse. Our reed diffusers come with a set of 8 reeds, so you can find the perfect level to set the mood in your home. With our Happiness collection, choose a scent that inspires you most, from the bright citrus island air to the refreshing mountaintop breeze. These unique, refreshing scents made with premium ingredients will remind you of your favorite places.
How long do the reeds last in a diffuser?
The lifespan of a reed diffuser depends on the number of reeds you insert and how long you keep the reeds in during each use. From our experience, our 4-ounce bottle will last at least 3 months (taking on a new meaning of “set it and forget it”). When you’re finished with the bottle, it can be recycled like any other glass or repurposed into another home staple.
Benefits of reed diffusers
Reed diffusers offer a nice twist to your home’s character. You can add a small touch of comfort with a treasured scent to your home, or use it as a staple for tonight’s dinner ambiance. Its compact nature allows it to blend with your home’s decor on a shelf or window sill, or be the main focus on the coffee table or kitchen counter. Reed diffusers also make a wonderful gift when visiting family and friends.
The design of our our diffusers offers a more natural decor alternative to many others, including plug-ins and battery powered diffusers that stick out or unexpectedly emit a mist whenever you walk by. You can easily create a relaxing aroma in any room of the house. Like candles, you should always place them out of reach of children and pets so they don't get accidentally knocked over.
If you’re curious, we offer a variety of Happiness reed diffuser scents to remind you of your favorite places. Now that you know how to use a reed diffuser, we hope you try out this alternative way to scent your home and create your own unique atmosphere!
