Designed by Mimi Robinson and Cristina Hernandez, these stunning luminary candles are handcrafted from recycled metal in Croix-des-Bouquets, Haiti. Available in 3 heights, each is decorated by a Haitian artisan using metal shears, a hammer and a nail. The decorative pieces are created flat, finished with a clear coating to protect the original metal coloring, then fashioned into cylinders that slip over candles made from recycled amber rum bottles. A contemporary remake of timeless candle decor.
Choose from small (3" high), medium (4.5" high) and large (6" high) - all are 3.5" wide
The unscented candles are made with pure soy and Haitian beeswax with a cotton wick. Each is handpoured by the women of Fanm Limye, a candle enterprise supported by our sister nonprofit, Prosperity Catalyst. Haiti- Since 2012, our sister nonprofit Prosperity Catalyst has been supporting women artisans in Haiti. Together we have traveled all over the country to work with beekeepers, bottle recyclers, metal and stone artisans, and entrepreneurial women to create unique handmade candles. But our love of Haitian people began a decade earlier during trips to support artisans working in every medium, from p apier-mâché in Jacmel to jewelry in Cité Soleil. Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti harder than anywhere else, including Petit-Goâve where many of our beekeepers live. Every purchase from the Haiti Collection helps families in Petit-Goâveand around Port-au-Prince rebuild, and creates opportunities for Haitian women to thrive.
